How to Brace a Sprained Ankle
If you’ve sprained your ankle a brace may be recommended to provide support for walking or running.
But which brace should you choose?
As long as you don’t have a “high” ankle sprain or a broken bone, a lace-up style brace can be very helpful.
Here’s how to brace your ankle so that you can best support your injury and reduce pain:
- Lace-up ankle brace (we like ASO or PRO brand) sized according to your shoe size
- Tall, well-fitting socks that come up higher than the brace
- Shoes or boots you intend to wear with the brace
See the video tutorial here:
What if the brace makes the pain worse?
Try re-applying the steering straps with less tension, or loosen the laces. If these tips don’t work, you may need a different brace or you may have a different injury (sometimes a “high” ankle sprain). Find a physical therapist or other sports medicine professional who can identify the problem and make the best recommendations for your injury.
